This non benefited position is 15 hours a week including 9am -11am Sunday mornings. The Director of Religious Education provides professional leadership of the children/youth religious program for Starr King Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (SKUUF).
SKUUF is a liberal religious community located in Plymouth NH, with this mission: To provide a liberal religious home for all persons who will share in creating a community that fosters spiritual growth; To educate, encourage and empower ourselves and our children to become committed to the principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association. The fellowship presently includes 140 members and a total of 37 children participating in the various RE programs.
The Director of Religious Education reports to the SKUUF Minister and works in a cooperative team environment with the RE committee, Worship and Music committee, the Board of Directors, and the volunteer teachers and helpers. This position also works extensively with all parents and children of the fellowship.
These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating registration of families and volunteers. This includes training of the volunteers to be in compliance with the Youth Protection Policy and will involve criminal background checks on those individuals involved on a regular basis.
- Setting up classes and recommending curricula appropriate for different ages. and obtaining new resources and material as needed.
- Preparing the prospectus and other communications that advocate and promote the RE Program.
- Overseeing the Sunday morning schedule of classes, including attendance and supervision of all groups.
- Coordinating special events, intergenerational services, and chapel services as scheduled and or needed.
- Preparing and submitting the annual budget to the Budget and Finance Committee.
- Overseeing the RE budget throughout the year.
- Submitting a written report for the Annual Meeting.
- Attending regular meetings of the RE Committee, through which communication is carried to the Board.
- Meeting regularly with the minister.
- Attending District area meetings and conferences as schedule allows, thus obtaining professional development in the RE field.
- Developing a High School level youth program and administering that program.
